Introduction to SynchronousCity
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | About
What is this blog about? Simply put, its about technology and the city. More broadly, it is about the tools and technologies that are changing the way we engage with the places we live and work. Some of the posts will be related directly to work I do at PlaceMatters in Denver, Colorado. I will explore trends in civic engagement, democracy, urban planning, and technology. I will consider the philosophy of place and the tension and synergies between the real and the virtual.
As a start, here are some books that explore these relationships (that should give you some insight into what I’ll be looking at here):
- Me++: The Cyborg Self and the Networked City
, William J. Mitchell
- City of Bits: Space, Place, and the Infobahn
, William J. Mitchell
- Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software
, Steven Johnson
- Splintering Urbanism: Networked Infrastructures, Technological Mobilities and the Urban Condition
, Steve Graham
And here are some of the blogs I keep up on:
- Digital Urban
- GIS and ABM
- Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis Blog
- PlaceMatters Blog
- Digital Earth Blog
That’s all for now folks. Look out for future posts.
Best,
Jason
